Training on Implementing Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response (IDSR)

Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response (IDSR) is a comprehensive framework designed to strengthen public health surveillance and improve timely detection, reporting, analysis, and response to priority diseases and public health events. Effective implementation of IDSR enables countries to identify outbreaks rapidly, coordinate response actions, and strengthen compliance with the World Health Organization International Health Regulations (IHR 2005).

This course provides participants with practical skills to implement and operationalize IDSR systems at national and sub-national levels. It covers surveillance structures, case detection, reporting workflows, data analysis, laboratory integration, outbreak investigation, and response coordination.

Participants will learn how to strengthen indicator-based and event-based surveillance systems, improve data quality and timeliness, and integrate surveillance into Public Health Emergency Operations Centers (PHEOCs) and emergency response frameworks. The course also explores digital surveillance tools, community-based surveillance, and epidemic intelligence approaches.

Through applied exercises, simulations, and real-world case studies, participants develop the capacity to transform surveillance data into actionable public health interventions that reduce morbidity, mortality, and outbreak risks.
